The Department of Public Works announced today that work on Pearce Mill Road between Babcock Boulevard and Tennis Court Road in McCandless will begin at 7 a.m. on Monday, June 14, 2021. The work, which is expected to end in December 2021, includes widening of the road, installation of additional designated bicycle and pedestrian lanes within North Park, slope and drainage improvements, as well as milling and paving.
The project involves three parts:
- From June 14-16, drivers can expect to experience short stoppages in work zones, and flaggers will be used to control traffic.
- From June 17 through November 2021, there will be single-lane closures. Northbound traffic will be detoured using Babcock Boulevard, Wildwood Road, East Ingomar Road, Kummer Road, McKinney Road, and Brown Road. Southbound traffic and vehicle access to all side roads and driveways will be maintained.
- When the single-lane closures end, crews will begin paving, line painting, and other miscellaneous construction. During that time, drivers can again expect to experience short stoppages in work zones, and flaggers will be used to control traffic.
Pedestrians will have access to Pearce Mill Road at all times during construction.
The work is being done by Michael Facchiano Contracting, Inc., of Mt. Lebanon. The $2 million cost of construction is being paid for by a PennDOT Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF) grant.
