PennDOT District 11 is announcing lane restrictions on the Elizabeth Bridge (Route 51) in Elizabeth and West Elizabeth boroughs, Allegheny County, will begin Monday, January 28 weather permitting.

Single-lane restrictions will occur, weather permitting, on the Elizabeth Bridge weekdays through late February as crews install bird screens. Restrictions will not occur in both directions simultaneously.  Work will occur in the southbound direction from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. or in the northbound direction from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The work is part of the $31.3 million Elizabeth Bridge Rehabilitation Project.  Additional improvements include concrete deck and barrier replacement, steel repairs, expansion dam replacement, bearing repairs, concrete substructure repairs, full painting, and drainage upgrades on the Elizabeth Bridge over the Monongahela River.  Additionally, five other structures at the bridge will be rehabilitated.

Swank Construction Company LLC is the prime contractor. The overall project will end in late 2019.
