The Department of Public Works announced today that McCoy Road will close at a landslide site just northwest of Dunn Street in Stowe Township starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2020. The closure, which is expected to end in December 2020, is required for installation of compacted material to support the roadway and erosion protection as well as pavement and guide rail replacement.

Traffic will be detoured using Neville Avenue, Island Avenue (Route 51), the McKees Rocks Bridge, Route 65, the West End Bridge, West Carson Street (Route 51), Stanhope Street (Route 51), Linden Street (Route 51), and Chartiers Avenue (Route 51). The posted detour route will cross the Ohio River because of the tight turn radius at the intersection of McCoy Road and Island Avenue (Route 51).

The northbound lane of that section of McCoy Road has been closed at the landslide site since March 5, 2019. Traffic is currently being controlled there using alternating traffic signals.

As the public notice for this $464,000 project is less than typically given, the start date is ensuring that the contractor, A. Merante Contracting, Inc. of Pittsburgh, has as much time as possible to complete its work before winter.
