The Department of Public Works announced today that the northbound lane of state‑owned Larimer Avenue between Thompson Street and McMasters Avenue in Wilkins Township will close at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 3, 2021. The closure is expected to end in June 2022. It is required for replacement of county-owned Thompson Run East Branch Bridge No. 2, including installation of new pavement, sidewalk, curb, drainage structures, guide rail, pavement markings, and signage.
The existing one-lane bridge, which carries Jones Avenue, will remain open while crews construct a new two-lane bridge next to it.
Northbound traffic on Larimer Avenue will be detoured using Thompson Street, the Tri-Boro Expressway (Route 130), Brown Avenue (Route 130), Beulah Road (Route 130), and Churchill Road.
Southbound traffic on Larimer Avenue and traffic in both directions on Jones Avenue will be maintained throughout the project. However, flaggers will be required to control traffic on those roads during certain phases, and drivers can expect to experience short delays when that occurs.
Residents who live within the closure area will have access to their homes at all times.
The $1,352,900 project is being done by A. Merante Contracting, Inc. of Pittsburgh.
