Detour needed at I-79 interchange for PA Turnpike Southern Beltway work.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission wants to alert motorists that a series of temporary overnight closures of Southpointe Boulevard in Cecil Twp., Washington County will be needed as part of the construction of the Southern Beltway (PA Turnpike 576). The closures will occur nightly from Jan. 11 through Jan. 25.

Each night starting around 8 p.m., crews will close all lanes of traffic on Southpointe Boulevard between the ramps connecting to I-79 and will reopen all lanes by 6 a.m. the following morning. Traffic needing to cross under I-79 on Southpointe Boulevard will be detoured around the work zone onto I-79 to either the Bridgeville Interchange to the north or the Canonsburg Interchange to the south.

During these overnight closures, demolition will be occurring on a portion of the southbound bridge to prepare for widening of the bridge. Any oversize permit loads that need to cross under the bridge during the closure will be accommodated between Jan. 11 and Jan. 15. The work will not affect traffic on I-79.

This traffic impact is needed to keep motorists and workers safe as work continues in the Southern Beltway’s 55C2-1 construction section. For more information about the project, please visit: https://www.patpconstruction.com/southern_beltway/22to79/.
