The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission wants to alert motorists that traffic paces on I-79 in South Fayette Township, Allegheny County and Cecil Township, Washington County could happen any day from June 10, 2019 through Dec. of 2020.

The paces would take place as needed between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. for rock blasting to occur as part of the construction of the PA Turnpike’s Southern Beltway (I-576).

During the paces, traffic will be slowed by construction vehicles and PA State Police to allow blasting to safely occur. Once the blasting is finished, traffic will return to normal speed. The blasting process usually takes 15 minutes or less.

Warning signs will be placed at all entrances to the blasting areas with the contractor, Walsh Construction Co. II, controlling access and monitoring the operation.

This traffic impact is needed to keep motorists and workers safe as work continues on the Southern Beltway’s 55C2-1 construction section. For more information about the project, please visit: https://www.patpconstruction.com/southern_beltway/22to79/.
