PennDOT District 11 is announcing replacement work on the East Washington Street Bridge (Route 2006) in the City of New Castle, Lawrence County will begin Monday, October 7 weather permitting.
Starting at approximately 6 a.m. Monday, the structure that carries East Washington Street over the Neshannock Creek between East Street and Croton Avenue will close to traffic around-the-clock through June of 2027 for a full bridge replacement project. Traffic will be detoured.

North of the Bridge
- From the bridge, take East Washington Street to North Jefferson Street
- Turn left onto Jefferson Street
- Turn left onto Grove Avenue
- Grove Avenue becomes Grove Street
- Bear right onto Neal Street
- Neal Street becomes Shadyside Street
- Bear left onto Taylor Street
- Follow Taylor Street to East Washington Street (Route 65)
- End detour
South of the Bridge
- From the bridge, take East Washington Street (Route 65) south
- Turn right onto Taylor Street
- Taylor Street becomes Shadyside Street
- Slight left as Shadyside Street becomes Neal Street
- Neal Street becomes Grove Street
- Grove Street becomes Grove Avenue
- Turn right onto Jefferson Street
- Turn right onto East Washington Street
- End detour
Pedestrian and bicyclists will be detoured via East Street, East North Street, and Croton Avenue.
Crews from Carmen Paliotta Contracting will conduct bridge reconstruction, utility relocation, approach roadway work, and minor signal improvements at the intersection with Croton Avenue on this $7.28 million improvement project.
Motorists should be prepared for changing traffic patterns. Please use caution when driving through the area. Work zone safety is everyone’s responsibility.
