The Department of Public Works announced today that the four-lane Glenwood Bridge in Pittsburgh will be reduced to two lanes – one in each direction – starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, March 17, 2025. The lane closures are expected to end in November 2025. They are required for the replacement 11 expansion dams, barrier replacement, and pier repairs.

Drivers might experience traffic delays on and near the bridge during the lane closures, and they are urged to slow down and use caution at the work zone.

Mosites Construction Company of Robinson is doing the work as part of a $4.9 million Glenwood Bridge preservation project, which began on March 4, 2024. Last year’s work included steel, deck, sidewalk, drainage, and approach pavement repairs; painting; concrete cleaning and sealing; as well as scour and erosion remediation.

The 2,276-foot Glenwood Bridge carries state-owned Route 885 over the Monongahela River between the Hazelwood and Hays neighborhoods. It carries an average of 17,497 vehicles daily. It has a bridge condition rating of 5 (fair condition) on a 0-9 scale based on National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) established by the Federal Highway Administration.
