PennDOT District 11 is announcing the closure of the inbound Liberty Tunnel (Route 3069) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Monday night, April 28 weather permitting.

The inbound (northbound) Liberty Tunnel will close to traffic from 8 p.m. Monday night to 5 a.m. Tuesday morning to allow crews from Mosites Construction Company to load and remove material for the roof replacement project.  Inbound traffic will be detoured.

Posted Inbound (northbound) Detour

·      Take Route 51 (Saw Mill Run Boulevard) northbound

·      Take the left exit to I-376 West/US 19 South toward Carnegie/Airport/West End

·      Take Exit 69A toward US 19 South/Banksville Road

·      Keep left (towards South Truck 19/51) and loop back to I-376 eastbound toward Fort Pitt Tunnel

·      Follow eastbound I-376 through Fort Pitt Tunnel and across the Fort Pitt Bridge

·      For access to I-279 destinations follow I-279 signage, all other destinations take exit toward I-376 East/Monroeville

·      Take the left exit 71A to Grant Street

·      Turn left onto Grant Street

·      End detour

Work may continue Tuesday night, April 29.  Additional details will be provided in advance of the closure.

The Liberty Tunnel Portal roof will be replaced in 2025 on this $3.47 million project in the City of Pittsburgh. Overnight closures and detours of the Liberty Tunnel will occur during the project, however, the closures will not occur in both directions simultaneously. The overall project, which includes drainage improvements and other miscellaneous construction activities, is expected to be complete in the fall of 2025.
