PennDOT District 11 is reminding motorists the closure of the ramp from Grand Avenue to southbound I-79 in Neville Township, Allegheny County will begin tonight, Monday, August 19 weather permitting.

Beginning at 7 p.m. Monday night, the ramp that carries traffic from Grand Avenue to southbound I-79 will close to traffic around-the-clock through Saturday, September 21 as crews conduct milling, hydro-demolition, and placement of a latex deck overlay. All ramp traffic will be detoured.

Posted Detour

  • From Grand Avenue take the ramp to northbound I-79
  • Take the Route 65/Emsworth/Sewickley (Exit 66) exit
  • Keep left towards Glenfield
  • Turn left onto Deer Run Road
  • Turn left onto the ramp to southbound I-79
  • End Detour

Additionally, to allow the above work to occur, a single-lane restriction is expected to be implemented each night from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. from south of the Route 51/Neville Island (Exit 65) exit off-ramp continuing approximately one-half mile. These restrictions are expected to be in place each night through Saturday, September 21 to accommodate the work occurring on the closed ramp.

This work is part of the $43.9 million I-79 “S-Bend” Project that includes full-depth pavement reconstruction, bridge preservation work on five mainline structures (I-79 northbound and southbound over Clever Road, I-79 northbound and southbound over Route 51, and the Neville Island Bridge). Additionally, there will be milling and paving of three ramps at the Route 51 (Coraopolis/McKees Rocks) interchange. The project also includes guiderail replacement, highway lighting and signing upgrades, new pavement markings and delineation, and other miscellaneous construction work.
