The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing bridge inspection activities on Route 28 in Allegheny County are underway this week, April 7-9.

There will be single-lane restrictions in various locations along Route 28 from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM each day according to the following schedule:

Tuesday, April 7

  • Southbound Route 28 between the on and off-ramps at the Route 8/Etna/Butler (Exit 5) interchange

Wednesday, April 8

  • Northbound Route 28 between the on and off-ramps at the Route 8 north/south (Exit 5A/5B) interchange

Thursday, April 9

  • Freeport Road on-ramp to southbound Route 28
  • Highland Park Bridge to southbound Route 28
  • Southbound Route 28 to the Highland Park Bridge

PennDOT inspection staff will conduct this work.

Drivers can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,200 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
