PennDOT District 11 is announcing a traffic crossover on Route 4003 (McKnight Road) in Ross Township, Allegheny County, will begin Saturday, March 29 weather permitting.
Southbound traffic on McKnight Road is expected to be crossed over into the northbound lanes on Saturday to allow crews to begin work on the structure carrying traffic over Babcock Boulevard. Preparatory work will begin at 7 a.m. Saturday with traffic being shifted to the outermost lanes. Crews will conduct barrier installation and line painting operations in advance of the crossover.
Once the prep work is complete, southbound traffic will be crossed over in the northbound lanes between Ross Municipal Drive and Brookview Lane at the Babcock Boulevard interchange. The new configuration will include one 12-foot lane of traffic in each direction. The crossover is anticipated to remain in place through late April. The southbound McKnight Road ramp to Babcock Boulevard will remain open. The on and off-ramps on northbound McKnight Road at the Babcock Boulevard interchange will also remain open to traffic.
If the work is completed sooner in this phase, the department will implement a new configuration by crossing northbound traffic into the southbound lanes. Additional details will be provided in advance of the next phase.
Additionally, to accommodate this work, the Babcock Boulevard on-ramp to southbound McKnight Road will close to traffic through late April. Ramp traffic will be detoured.

This $26.99 million McKnight Road improvement project began in February 2024 between Venture Street and Perrymont Road in the City of Pittsburgh, and Ross and McCandless townships, including Babcock Boulevard/Evergreen Road. Work includes bridge and culvert preservation, milling and paving, base repairs, drainage upgrades, pipe cleaning, guide rail, signal, and ADA ramp upgrades, waterline replacement, concrete mountable curb replacement and new signage and pavement markings. Remaining work in the southbound direction includes drainage updates, milling and paving, and side road adjustments under a lane closure. Side road adjustments and ramp work will occur in the northbound direction. Additionally, there will be a crossover for work to occur on the structure over Babcock Boulevard. Work is expected to conclude in the summer of 2025. Lindy Paving, Inc. is the prime contractor.
