PennDOT District 11 is announcing the start of a roadway improvement project on Route 8 (William Flinn Highway, Butler Street) in Shaler Township, Etna Borough, and the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County will begin Monday, August 19 weather permitting.

Beginning at approximately 9 a.m. on Monday, lane restrictions will occur on Route 8 between Baker Street and the 62nd Street Bridge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weeknights through the end of 2024. Additionally, work will occur on weekends. A minimum of one lane of traffic will be maintained throughout the majority of the project.

Additional information will be provided when work on Route 8 north of the 62nd Street Bridge begins.

This $9.14 million project comprises of work between Baker Street and the 62nd Street Bridge which includes milling and resurfacing, retaining wall repairs, and the installation of a barrier to separate travel lanes from a future shared-use path. Work north of the 62nd Street Bridge to Saxonburg Boulevard includes concrete pavement restoration and preservation work on two structures carrying Route 8 over Pine Creek. Additional work throughout the project includes sign and signal upgrades, guide rail updates, drainage work, ADA curb ramp updates, pavement markings/delineation installation, and other miscellaneous construction. The majority of work will be completed under short-term single lane closures during off-peak daylight hours. However, there will be a minimum of three separate one-way detours of the 62nd Street Bridge in 2025, a weekend detour of Saxonburg Boulevard at the intersection with Route 8, and a detour for the reconstruction of the ramp carrying Route 28 southbound traffic onto northbound Route 8. The project is anticipated to conclude in the fall of 2025.
