Shapiro Administration Encourages Pennsylvanians to Share Feedback on Transportation Projects to Enhance Communities’ Economies and Safety

Public can help shape transportation future through comment period, including online public forum.

Harrisburg, PA – As part of the Shapiro Administration’s mission to provide a safe, efficient transportation system that supports business and improves Pennsylvanians’ quality of life, the public is encouraged to give their feedback on future transportation projects and priorities. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is offering various ways to review and comment on the 12-Year Transportation Program (TYP) which includes projects that support the many ways that Pennsylvanians travel and businesses get their products to market.

Public comment can be submitted through the department’s transportation survey through Wednesday, April 30. PennDOT will also host an online public forum about the plan on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM.

“Governor Shapiro knows that transportation affects everyone, so we want to hear from everyone,” said PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll. “PA drivers, riders, pedestrians and residents use our transportation system every day, and it’s critical that we hear directly from them as we plan for the next 12 years.”

This public comment period occurs every two years when the State Transportation Commission (STC) and PennDOT update the TYP. The public is also encouraged to review the 2025 PennDOT Transportation Performance Report (TPR), a collaboration among the STC, the State Transportation Advisory Committee, and PennDOT which is also updated every two years. It is the first step in the state’s transportation program planning process and helps to evaluate the system’s performance and opportunities for progress.

During the public comment period, Pennsylvanians can submit feedback by taking the Transportation Survey, emailing comments to RA-PennDOTSTC@pa.gov, or calling 717-783-2262 from 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM to request a printed copy of the survey, or to complete the survey by telephone. The STC and PennDOT will document, review, and use the public feedback provided to help identify needs and prioritize transportation projects across the state. This feedback is also used to inform other regional and statewide transportation plans and programs.

The April 10 online public forum will be a livestream that will be made available online. During the forum, Pennsylvanians can ask transportation-related questions to PennDOT leadership and members of the STC. Questions may also be submitted in advance by filling out the Registration Form or by emailing RA-PennDOTSTC@pa.gov. Interested parties may also call PennDOT in advance at 717-783-2262 from 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM to share their questions they would like to be answered at the public forum.

PennDOT will make all reasonable modifications to policies, programs, and documents to ensure that people with disabilities and those with limited English proficiency have an equal opportunity to access all of the programs, services and activities. Individuals interested in attending virtually and who do not have Internet access can call (717) 783-2262 to listen in on the meeting.

To request assistance to participate in the survey or Public Forum, contact the Department’s Program Center by emailing RA-PennDOTSTC@pa.gov or calling 717-783-2262 from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. For ADA coordination, complaints, or requests for accommodation on the basis of a disability, contact Robert Mulkerin at rmulkerin@pa.gov. Requests for Public Forum assistance should be made as soon as possible, but no later than Thursday, April 3.
