PennDOT District 11 is announcing a single-lane restriction is underway on southbound Interstate 579 in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County.
A single-lane restriction has been implemented on southbound I-579 over the PennDOT facility on Progress Street located near the southbound Route 28 on-ramp. The left lane and shoulder of southbound I-579 will be closed until further notice. The southbound Route 28 on-ramp to southbound I-579 will remain open to traffic.
These restrictions are in place to accommodate further analysis on a pier that carries southbound I-579. During inspection activities today, crews found significant pier deterioration and out of an abundance of caution, the department has closed the lane while analysis continues.
