Allegheny County-owned Thoms Run Road overnight closures to continue

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing southbound I-79 structure repair work will continue in Collier Township, Allegheny County weather permitting.

Due to a bridge strike on the structure carrying southbound I-79 over Thoms Run Road located approximately one-half mile north of the Heidelberg/Collier (Exit 55) off-ramp, a right-hand lane and shoulder closure have been in place around-the-clock since December 23.

Thoms Run Road was closed to traffic around-the-clock from Thursday night, February 5 through Monday night, February 9 between Washington Pike (Route 50) and Neville Park Boulevard to accommodate steel repairs and heat straightening work.

The heat straightening work was completed but steel repair work will continue through Monday morning, February 16 according to the following schedule:

Tuesday, February 10 through Monday, February 16

  • Thoms Run Road will close to traffic overnights from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM between Washington Pike (Route 50) and Neville Park Boulevard

All traffic will be detoured via Washington Pike (Route 50) and Prestley Road (Route 3031).

Additional details will be provided as this emergency repair work progresses.
