ACTA Joins World Public Transport Day Celebrations

On April 17, 2026, ACTA will join a global celebration of public transport as part of the first ever World Public Transport Day. World Public Transport Day is led by the International Association of Public Transport (UITP). This global campaign shines a light on the journeys that move us and the people who make them possible. It’s all about celebrating: One Day. Millions of Journeys.

“By giving us multiple options for movement, public transport has the power to bring together communities and create healthier cities and happier people. It drives economic growth and gives us access to jobs, education, culture, and many other necessities and opportunities. World Public Transport Day may be a celebration across a single 24 hours, but our sector and our passengers make millions of journeys all day, every day, and that is the commitment public transport gives to urban life.” – Mohamed Mezghani, UITP Secretary General.

Passengers and transport staff around the world will also be sharing their experiences throughout the day, highlighting how public transport helps people access work, education, and leisure, while supporting cleaner, greener, and healthier cities.

Last year in Pittsburgh, the RideACTA shuttle:

  • Provided 27,442 rides, connecting passengers to over 275 businesses in the Airport Corridor
  • Reduced 367 tons of CO₂
  • Eliminated 13,721 cars off the road
  • Saved 37,741 gallons of gasoline and over 930,000 vehicle miles

Join the celebration! Share your journey, your favorite route, or a moment that made you smile using #WorldPublicTransportDay.

NOTES TO EDITORS

World Public Transport Day is a brand new initiative launching on 17 April 2026 and marked every year on the same day. Brought to you by UITP, the international association of public transport, it’s a global celebration of all the ways public transport moves us and makes sure we get from A to B (and everywhere in between).

The day highlights the journeys that move us and the people who make them possible – from everyday commutes to extraordinary adventures. The day is a chance to shine a spotlight on how public transport connects people, opens up opportunities, supports cleaner cities, and helps build healthier, more connected communities.

It’s one day and millions of journeys. A day to say – we love public transport, it moves us all.
