Overnight closures to occur on Route 28 and Route 837
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing joint and crack sealing work on various roads in Allegheny and Beaver counties will begin Monday night, August 31 weather permitting.
The following restrictions will occur from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM according to the schedule below:
Monday night, August 31
- Route 837 (East Carson Street) will close to traffic between the Glenwood Bridge and South 33rd Street in Baldwin Borough and the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County. Traffic will be detoured.
Tuesday night, September 1
- Southbound Route 28 will close to traffic between the Millvale (Exit 3B) and I-279 North/East Ohio Street (Exit 1B) interchanges in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County. Traffic will be detoured.
Monday through Thursday nights, August 31-September 3
- Pleasant Drive (Route 3017) will have single-lane alternating traffic restrictions controlled by flaggers between Brodhead Road and Moffett Run Road in Center Township, Beaver County.

South of the closure
- Traffic on northbound Route 837 will take the ramp to northbound Route 885/Glenwood Bridge
- Continue onto northbound Route 885
- Turn left onto Hot Metal Street, crossing the Hot Metal Bridge
- End detour
North of the closure
- Same detour in opposite direction
Southbound Route 28
- From southbound Route 28, take the Millvale (Exit 3B) exit.
- Bear left onto East Ohio Street
- Continue through the signalized intersection toward south 28/40th Street Bridge/Pittsburgh
- Turn left onto the 40th Street Bridge
- Turn right onto Butler Street
- Butler Street turns into Penn Avenue
- Turn right onto 16th Street
- Turn left onto East Ohio Street
- End detour
Traffic from Rialto Street to southbound Route 28
- Traffic from Rialto Street will cross the 31st Street Bridge
- Turn right onto Penn Avenue
- Turn right onto 16th Street
- Turn left onto East Ohio Street
- End detour
Please use caution if traveling through the area. Work zone safety is everyone’s responsibility.
Additional restrictions are anticipated in early September to accommodate mobile line painting operations. Details will be provided in advance of the work occurring.
