The Department of Public Works announced today that single-lane closures will occur on I-279 northbound and southbound between the Route 19/Perrysville Avenue (Exit 5) and Bellevue/West View (Exit 7) interchanges – where Jacks Run Bridge No. 3 was recently demolished in Ross – from 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 22 to 6 a.m. on Friday, October 23 and from 7 p.m. on Friday, October 23 to 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 24.
The traffic restrictions are required for miscellaneous work that will complete the Jacks Run Bridge No. 3 demolition project. That project began on April 27, 2026. Public Works closed Jacks Run Bridge No. 3 on July 3, 2025.
Swank Construction Company of New Kensington was the primary construction contractor for the $2.8 million project. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) funded the project, and PennDOT oversaw the federal funds.
Prior to its closure and demolition, Jacks Run Bridge No. 3 carried Jacks Run Road and an average of 4,631 vehicles daily over I-279 between Bellevue Road/Bellpark Drive and Kane Lane.
Construction of a new Jacks Run Bridge No. 3 is expected to begin later this fall. Prior to the start of that project, Public Works will announce it via press release, Allegheny Alerts, and on social media.
