On Sunday, June 28, the ACTA team set up our vibrant orange tent in Market Square for OpenStreetsPGH. This annual event, organized by BikePGH, transforms city streets into car-free routes for walking, biking, rolling, or strolling. As part of our mission to promote active transportation, we were thrilled to sponsor this event and engage with the Pittsburgh community!

During the event, we showcased two signs at our booth. The first was an interactive activity titled, “How Do You Move?” We invited visitors to leave a tally for various modes of transportation: biking, riding the bus, driving, or walking.

Here are the findings:

  • Of the 210 participants:

    • 29% get around by walking

    • 24% ride a bike

    • 24% take the bus

    • 23% drive

The second activity, “Show Us Your Commute,” encouraged participants to sketch their commute on a map of Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods. Here are some of the routes shared:

  • Millvale to Dormont

  • Lincoln Place to Upper Lawrenceville

  • South Side Flats to Neville Island

  • White Hall to Strip District

  • East Hills to North Oakland

  • Hazelwood to Lower Lawrenceville

  • Polish Hill to South Side Slopes

Additionally, we provided traffic safety coloring books, reflective safety stickers, and collapsible water bottles, which were a big hit among attendees!

If you couldn’t make it to the event, don’t worry! The second and final day of OpenStreetsPGH will take place on Sunday, July 26, from Lawrenceville to the Strip District. For more details, please visit: https://openstreetspgh.org
