The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing work on Route 28 in the City of Pittsburgh and Millvale Borough, Allegheny County will occur Monday through Thursday, August 31-September 3 weather permitting.
There will be shoulder closures from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM each day to accommodate electrical and sign work in the following locations:
- On the northbound Route 28 right-hand off-ramp to Chestnut Street
- On the southbound Route 28 off-ramp to Millvale (Exit 3B) exit
- On the southbound Route 28 off-ramp to Anderson Street
Please stay alert and drive cautiously – safety is everyone’s responsibility.
This $4.8 million safety project is located along Route 28 between the City of Pittsburgh and Harmar Township. Work includes installation of sensors, detectors, and cameras to detect wrong way drivers. If a driver enters Route 28 in the wrong direction, signs and lights will automatically activate to alert drivers and notifications will be sent to PennDOT’s Western Regional Traffic Management Center. Controller boxes, fiber optics, electrical components, cameras, signs, and lighting will all be installed within department right-of-way. All interchange exit ramps will be included along Route 28 between the Anderson Street ramp in the City of Pittsburgh and the Harmar/I-76/Route 910 (Exit 11) interchange in Harmar Township. There will be single-lane and shoulder restrictions through most of the project, with intermittent traffic stoppages as needed. Power Contracting Company is the prime contractor.
