PennDOT District 11 is announcing daily intermittent traffic stoppages on Route 50 (Washington Pike) in Collier Township, Allegheny County beginning Wednesday, May 8 weather permitting.

Intermittent traffic stoppages of 15 minutes or less will occur on Route 50 in both directions at the I-79 interchange between Winstein Street and Vanadium Road for utility relocation work between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. each weekday through Wednesday, May 15. This work will require traffic stoppages in all directions at the intersection multiple times each day to allow crews to safely relocate lines across the roadway. Flaggers will assist motorists through the work zone.

Please use caution when driving through the area. Work zone safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Work on this $5.61 million widening project began in November 2022. Work in 2024 will include roadway widening to accommodate exclusive left turn lanes at the Washington Pike (Route 50) intersection with Vanadium Road. Additionally, the Washington Pike and Vanadium Road intersection will be modified to a standard plus intersection, eliminating the existing dual driveways at Eat’n Park. The restaurant will be relocated further back from the roadway to allow for the roadway widening and intersection improvements. Other work includes new sidewalks, updated ADA curb ramps, traffic signal upgrades, signing and pavement marking updates, drainage guide rail work, and other miscellaneous construction. Motorists will see single-lane restrictions with one lane of traffic maintained in each direction at all times. The turn lane and other modifications at the Vanadium Road intersection are expected to help alleviate congestion in this area. The overall project is anticipated to conclude in late 2024.
